I’m honored to have been given the opportunity to direct this series of mini documentaries for WebMD that spotlights people doing amazing, inspiring, and nontraditional things in the healthcare space.
A Doll Like Me's Amy Jandrisevits' dining room has been transformed into her workroom where she creates dolls by hand that aren't just playthings. They're partners for the kids who don't often see themselves represented in the world. They have limb differences, prosthetic braces and Treacher Collins Syndrome. “It makes them not feel so alone," Jandrisevits said. "Their logical brain knows this is just a doll. But the very innocent child part of them still feels like 'Now I'm not the only one that looks this way.'"
Bitty & Beau’s Coffee is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee – it’s an experience. While the shop is run by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the customers love the products, they really come in for the unique customer service experience.
Canine Assisted Therapy, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in August 2009 to provide canine companionship for those in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospice organizations. With 120 therapy teams, C.A.T.’s dedicated and passionate volunteers now serve more than 60 facilities annually, primarily throughout South Florida.
